The excursion started from the Aliki side near the Settlement of Skala Polichnitou. The participants were directed to the perimeter dirt road opposite Aliki, where we observed a variety of birds that were in the wetland foraging.
The participants got to know the birds and plants of the wetlands under the guidance of the Biodiversity Team of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest / Kalloni Environmental Information Center, using the special equipment for bird watching (binoculars, telescopes).
This effort is aiming to inform and raise citizens' awareness of the ecological and environmental value of wetlands and the animal and plant organisms of wetlands, whose protection and utilization can contribute to local development and especially to the strengthening and development of the alternative tourism.
